North Sails

Bottom trawling is quickly destroying unseen deep sea habitats, marine life, and the planet. It’s time to make the invisible, visible. It's time to ban bottom trawling.

Join us and take action on World Oceans Day.

CONTINUINING DAMAGE

Commercial fishing boats ignore marine protected areas (MPAs) and continue to trawl the seabed, severely damaging marine life, ecosystems, and the planet.

EMPTY PROMISES

So-called paper parks look great on paper. But, since MPAs are hard to manage and nearly impossible to police, real change is tough. Bottom trawling continues.

CAUGHT THEN WASTED

Over 90% of discarded fish in EU waters is because of bottom trawling. This by-catch goes to waste. Worse still, it can include turtles, seabirds and marine mammals.Bottom-trawled often includes cod, shrimp, hake, mullet, anglerfish and octopus. Always ask your fishmonger how your fish was caught—and help avoid bottom trawling.

HELP US MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Without the ocean, North wouldn’t—and couldn’t—exist. It’s our life, our love and our livelihood. And while being Ocean Positive drives what we do every day, World Oceans Day is time to unite people, partners and organizations from all over the world.

Together, we can take even more positive steps for the ocean, join Oceana and other groups in the fight against the disastrous effects of bottom trawling in the Med, and act for ocean, people and planet—before it's too late.
