"North Sails listens closely to our customers and is committed to constantly improving our products and services. INITIATIVE 1:

ULTRA WHITE 3Di SAILS

North Sails 3Di technology, while offering unrivaled performance and durability, usually results in black or grey sails due to the unique manufacturing process. The black sails have proven very popular, especially with racing clients, and now many sailmakers try to mimic the iconic black 3Di sails.

But many of our premium Superyacht cruising clients want a pure, traditional white finish to their sails. So North Sails listened and adapted the 3Di layering to get a purer, whiter 3Di sail for Superyachts.

INITIATIVE 1:

MATCHING AESTHETICS WITH 3Di PERFORMANCE

"We're constantly looking at improving our sails, particularly regarding usability and durability. We understand that our owners have 100% custom-built yachts, so we want a product that is equally 100% customized."

INITIATIVE 2:

HELIX DOWNWIND CRUISING CODE SAILS

Pursuing high-performance, durable, and beautifully white cruising sails with good handling has led North Sails to make a further breakthrough in developing a 3Di high modulus downwind sail fabric: HELIX DOWNWIND 703.

HELIX DOWNWIND 703 is for large cruising monohulls 80 ft and up, seeking performance and longevity with beautiful bespoke white sails.

North Sails recently constructed the largest 3Di sail ever produced (Tripp 85m Code 65) at 2,132m2 (22,948 sq ft), 500 square meters bigger than the previous largest Code Sail, also built by North.

INITIATIVE 2:

HIGH MODULUS DOWNWIND 703 SAILS FOR CRUISING PERFORMANCE AND VERSATILITY

“We have been working with the material engineers at our 3Di manufacturing loft in Minden, Nevada, developing HELIX DOWNWIND 703 for long-lasting, high modulus, ultra-lightweight, and beautifully white Code Sails. This new product tier is well-suited for Code Sails that require flex while flying and can withstand folding and stuffing while stored.”

INITIATIVE 3:

NON-LASHING BATTEN SYSTEM

Our latest Superyacht upgrade came from identifying a nuisance with lashing battens. Our teams at Superyacht hubs worldwide understand the value of sailing onboard with the captains and crew, and their combined experience and knowledge enabled North Sails to find a creative solution for a reliable and effective batten tension system.

Developed in-loft by North Sails Palma, the Non-Lashing Batten System relies on Allen keys instead of traditional ropes and knots. In addition to easy batten loading and removal, the system offers several advantages: balancing tension through the sail, reducing profile for improved aerodynamics, and reducing chafe.

INITIATIVE 3:

IMPROVED EFFICIENCY, PERFORMANCE AND AERODYNAMICS

"This ingenious solution offers several advantages: removing unevenness, improving aerodynamics, increasing the tension in the system, and allowing us to set a specific torque. The result is that getting battens in and out is now super easy. Clients are still amazed by it! We're looking to roll this out across all new sails, and it's an optional update for existing sails when they come in for seasonal maintenance."
