Sarissa, Zemi & Raven were all recognized at the awards ceremony hosted by Boat International.
Boat International magazine recently unveiled the winners of the World Superyacht Awards and we were very proud to see three of our pioneering partners claiming honors in the sailing categories.
All three boats benefited from the joint expertise of our integrated teams working closely together across the North Technology Group throughout the design, build and testing phases. North Sails, Southern Spars, and Future Fibres came together, as only they can, to find innovative solutions to complex problems and push the boundaries of what is possible for these ambitious yachts.
2024 Boat of the Year - Sarissa. 📸 North Sails
Sarissa claimed ‘Sailing Yacht of the Year’ in large part due to her state-of-the-art sails and rigging. Designed by MMYD and built at Royal Huisman, the 59.7m high-performance foiling sloop breaks norms across the board. The superyacht boasts the largest square-top mainsail in the world. This in-boom furling 3Di sail is the first of its kind and is custom-engineered to work seamlessly with the Southern Spars package. Additionally, the North sails designers collaborated closely with Southern Spars and Future Fibres to further maximize the aerodynamics, using our industry-leading in-house software to develop the 76-meter-high modulus carbon mast and AeroSix rigging.
Zemi, another MMYD project built by Baltic, was also recognized in the smaller sailing yacht category (30-39.9m). Designed to combine power, ease and sustainability, North developed an innovative triple-headed furling rig comprised of a J1, a J2 set further aft and a detachable storm jib stay, which provide a multitude of options at the touch of a button. Code sails and A sails can be tacked further forward at the stem-head and off the bowsprit respectively.

Not to be outdone, the 34m Botin-designed, Baltic-built Raven was an exceedingly worthy recipient of a Judges’ Special Award for pushing the boundaries of innovation. Designed to foil, our experience in the America’s Cup was central to finding the right product solutions for optimal weight, lift, and power to guarantee safety and speed. No doubt we’ll be hearing a lot more about this spectacular boat.
“It has been an absolute pleasure to work with the collective partners on these three projects,” remarked Jens Christensen, North Sails Superyacht Sales Leader. “Superyacht projects often begin as an owner's dream, many years before the boats get launched. The North group, together with the design offices and yards, seamlessly uses our experience and expertise to make these dreams a reality. Splash day and sea trials are always exciting moments and to be recognized with these awards is a credit to all involved in these projects.”
