J/70'S AND J/24'S SPEND EASTER WEEKEND IN COLUMBIA, SC

Sailing the J24 Southeast Regionals and the J70 Corinthian Regatta

The 2017 Easter Regatta, held at the incredibly gracious Columbia Sailing Club, hosted both the J24 and the Corinthian J70 class this year.

The regatta was held over three days, April 14-16. Friday and Saturday were beautiful, sunny and warm; unfortunately, there was too little wind to hold any racing. Sunday was another beautiful day, with a nice 5-8 knot breeze that filled in first thing in the morning. It was just enough for the Race Committee to get in three solid races, which made for a successful event.

Thursday before the event, North Sails Tim Healy ran a J70 clinic with practice races, and on-the-water coaching followed up by a well attended debrief.

If you’ve never been to CSC, the hospitality at the Columbia Sailing Club is second to none. The volunteers at CSC did a fantastic job with food and beverages, and all J24 and J70 sailors were made to feel like it was their home club.

Dan Borrer on J24 team ‘Jesus Lizard’ took the J24 Southeast Regionals overall win. Second place was James Howard and Team ‘Classic’ followed by Mike Ingham and his team on ‘USA 5443’ in third place.

In the J70 class, Don Trask came out on top with his team ‘Smokin J.’ In Second place was Jay Greenfield and team ‘TBD’, and Hunter Davidson and his team on ‘Lunatictu’ came in third place.
