Q: What does North Sails mean by “modern” sailcloth?
A: Sailboats have evolved significantly over the past couple of decades. The line between “upwind” and “downwind” sailing has become ever more blurred, with more modern boats and rigs typically sailing at much tighter wind angles and higher apparent wind speeds, even when VMG and VMC sailing. However, materials for wider apparent wind angle asymmetric spinnakers have changed little. And because we’re North Sails, we decided it was time to change the game again.
Q: Can I get an AEROTECH sail from another sailmaker?
A: AEROTECH is only available through North Sails. This new line of sailcloth was developed for and exclusively sold by North Sails. Materials expert Tom Davis lead the development of AEROTECH in collaboration with Grand Prix sales leader Paul Westlake and world-renowned sails designers JB Braun, Mickey Ickert, and Dave Lenz.
Q: Is AEROTECH suitable for my boat?
A: AEROTECH is a complete end-to-end product line that covers the smallest One Design class through to the rigors of Maxi 100 racing. North Sails offers two versions of this woven spinnaker cloth: AEROTECH P (polyester) and AEROTECH N (nylon). AEROTECH P is made for today’s high-performance Asymmetric sails, while AEROTECH N is the best spinnaker nylon North Sails has ever offered for wider angle-orientated Asymmetric spinnakers.
